Musical??

So growing up I can't recall more then a handful of events, church or town related, that someone in my family wasn't participating in. Did that make sense??

My favourite thing about my dads side of the family get togethers is when someone brakes out the guitar and we start singing. Half of the children's or "primary"(I believe it was Uncle Randy who actually thought Cousins was in the children's song book) songs we learned growing up were written by Gram Olsen. I have always Loved to sing!
With that being said here comes my deep dark secret. Ready... I cant read music...Oh the shame!!!

Thinking of all the choirs, all those YEARS of playing Trombone in band (Don't tell Jerry), and I still can't for the life of me read music. I am pretty good at faking it though, I gotta admit that is a skill I honed pretty well Leaching off others ability to actually know where to start. Once I have heard it a few times I can follow along with the notes on the page. But I still don't know what they are called or if I am actually hitting the right pitch and all that.

So what is the purpose, you may be asking, of bringing up all these repressed feelings of inadequacy... well for the first time in a LONG time, I think since I was pregnant with Izaac. I was asked to sing in front of people... no not by myself, what are you crazy??? For the Relief Society birthday party this year I got to sing in a Quintet... Is that actually something??? Well there were five of us anyway, I guess a mini choir:)

We sang a song by Sally DeFord, Lift up your heart... It was a really beautiful song and Natalie, as ambitious as she is, had us sing a SSA version of the song. Probably not a big deal for most but I really think this is the first time I have ever sung second soprano. It's HARD... at least it was for me, I was so scared and had a terrible time finding my notes... meaning coping Aleisha, Who thankfully was singing my part with me, because as previously indicated I have a lack there of. Thankfully after practicing with the piano music Tanya let me record. I could fake my way through it.

It was a lot of fun to sing again,,, not just for Justice and my kids in my house, car, park or
random grocery store.

So anyone out there although I may be inept at actually reading the notes, I love to sing and love
opportunities to do so.

I recorded our song but I can't figure out how to put it on here so just imagine what it sounded like
... We were pretty good eh! :)

My Cute Lil' Girl

Just a few funny things from my lil' girl:)

Dec 2010: mom: I need to find some chocolate for dipping..,
Cora: I need some chocolate for dinner!!

Cora loves to be kissed on the bridge if her nose right before bed and won't let me leave until I have hit just the right spot.

Cora loves stuffed animals and sleeps with a hoard of them in her bed.

Cora saw a picture of me on my wedding day and excitedly exclaimed "Mom you were a princess!!" ... "Just like I am!"

oh, that little boy...

Well when Izaac turned three I thought "Hooray!! no more terrible twos! " but oh was I wrong... but this is not to focus on the things that drive me crazy about that little boy (such as when he pours out two tubes of sparkles all over his room covering Himself and Cora despite all attempts to scrub everything down we are all still glittery after a week or so)
But I wanted to write a few stories to remind myself of all the adorable things he does and says every day!

I: Mom I don't want Mary to go home I want her to come home with us.
M: well maybe Mary can come over and babysit you soon so mom and dad can go to the temple.
I: I want Mary and you to stay home together and me to go out on a date.
M: oh, who would you go on a date with?
I: Cora
M: And what would you do on your date?
I: Buy some new underwear.

I: Mom I want us to get a baby.
M: oh, and where would we get a baby from?
I: we could look for a babies mommy and then take the baby.
M: I think the babies mommy would be very sad if we did that.
I: oh I guess that wouldn't be very nice.

Workers are good heroes, they make everything good!

Izaac's favourite adjective is Soakin - it can mean, lots, significantly or really. As in it is Soakin windy.

Izaac is well aware that we don't talk about bums or poop unless we are in the bathroom and will often remind me... "Mom we don't talk about bums here..." (When Cora and I were giggling about her biting the bum off a animal cracker in church,,) quite right little man... well the other day Justice was getting him ready for a bath... IN the bathroom and he says, in a cheery voice, "Hey dad, wanna talk about bums?" "What would we say about them" "Well, we can talk about bums, or poop!"

I guess there are perks to being American, you don't see and John A Macdonald masks around...

gettin out now and again

The winter has already been a long one,,, even though it started in January instead of October like it does back home,,, but being stuck in our house for more then a month with nowhere to go but the grocery store,,, and you can only do that so many times,,, has started to wear on us and I finally saw the sun shining through the window and it beckoned us out! It may have been snow covered but it was a nice walk on the boardwalk and to the park. and they only started to whine near the end :)
